Jonathan is currently a second year chemistry major working in the Houk Group at UCLA. His research interests are in quantum mechanical calculations used in order to design catalysts for CH activation. In the future, he intends on pursuing a career in academia in either synthetic or computational organic chemistry.

From 2010–2014, he was a postdoctoral scholar of Professor Houk’s group at UCLA, where he performed computational research in various areas of organic chemistry, including C–H bond functionalization, olefin metathesis, organocatalysis, organic nanomaterials, and enzyme catalysis.
My research lab is interested in natural product biosynthesis and biocatalysis. In the natural product area, we are interested in elucidating biosynthetic pathways of polyketides, nonribosomal peptides and related compounds. Our goal is to understand the biochemical and structural basis of different enzymes encoded in these pathways.
Garg obtained his PhD in 2005 from the California Institute of Technology under the direction of Professor Brian Stoltz. He then joined Professor Larry Overman's research laboratory at the University of California, Irvine as an NIH Postdoctoral Scholar. In 2007, Garg joined the faculty at UCLA.
